Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin and Sorbic Acid is a full spectrum preservative, meaning that it can be added to a formula on its own and work effectively as a preservative without the need for a co-preservative. This particular preservative is quite easy to work with, and can be added directly to a formula and stirred in at a low temperature.
In addition this preservative is effective at a wide pH range. It has a wide degree of global acceptance, and is gentle enough to add to products intended for use on the lips and eyes.

Optiphen Plus is a broad-spectrum preservative that was developed as an alternative to parabens and formaldehyde for cosmetic formulations.
